The procedure is performed
using only local anaesthesia, it is painless and
it lasts approximately 3 hours. It is ambulatory,
which means that once the procedure is over, the
patient can go home by his own means. It does
not require rest, so the patient can go back to
his usual activities within the 24 hours. It is
also definitive, because since the implanted
hair belongs to the patient himself, there is no
possibility of rejection. It lasts forever and
it can be dyed and cut normally.
Donor area:
Procedure that consists of the removal of a strip of
scalp from the occipital area –it can also be extended
from both temporal areas to the rear level of the atrial
auricle. Two centimetres above that area, an aesthetic
stitch brings the edges of scalp closer together,
without leaving any visible scars. Besides, it remains
hidden by one’s own hair.
Processing:
Using specialized and state-of-the-art technology, the
strip of scalp previously removed is dissected every 2
mm and then, follicular units containing 1, 2 and even 3
hairs are extracted from each graft. The preservation
technique is the harvest, similar to the one used with
blood plasma and in cold chains. This method is
performed by highly trained and experienced personnel (usually
four).
Recipient area:
A special design is created for each patient according
to his features and areas of less hair density so that
afterwards, the hair follicles can be implanted -one at
a time- following the natural orientation of the hair in
each area. The high level of detail in the equipment
used allows the achievement of higher hair density as it
preserves the blood irrigation. The amount of follicular
units varies from 800 to 2000 according to the density
of the donor area of the patient. The follicular units
contain 1, 2, 3 and even 4 strands of hair, therefore,
the total amount of transplanted hairs goes from 2000 to
7000 approximately.
